Session 7: Presentation of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Platform for Latin America

Session |
Wed, 17/10/2018 - 16:30 to 18:00

The EUROCLIMA + Program is a regional program of the European Union in collaboration with 18 Latin American countries. Its focus is on mitigation and adaptation to the effects of climate change and environmental sustainability. The duration of the program is from 2016 to 2022.

The urban mobility component of this Program considers 4 types of actions:

  • National Plans and Policies on Urban Mobility (NUMP's for its acronym in English)
  • Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMP's for its acronym in English)
  • Pilot Projects
  • Community of Practice (CoP), Sustainable Urban Mobility Platform in Latin America

The Community of Practice intends to work from a Web Platform that allows dialogue, interaction and collaboration among diverse actors, mainly from Latin America, who are interested in the issues of sustainable urban mobility with low carbon emissions. Three priority issues have been defined for the work of the CoP in a first stage: NUMP's and SUMP's, Financing and Electromobility.

The development of the CoP will be coordinated by the Latin American Federation of Cities, Municipalities and Municipal Associations (FLACMA), which will have the technical assistance of the Institute for Transportation and Development Policies, ITDP Mexico. In turn, the CoP considers the participation of ECLAC, UN Environment and MYC (GIZ and AFD) as permanent partners.

In this session, organized by FLACMA, the first version of the CoP web platform will be announced, explaining its operation and participation channels.

Structure of the session and objectives

The general objective of the session is:

To present the concept of the community of regional practice on sustainable urban mobility to II Conference of Cities participants, explain the services they will find and encourage their active participation to generate dialogue, exchange experiences, and encourage provision of new contents (studies, programs, projects implemented or in the implementation stage).

The expected results of this session are:

  • To familiarize the conference participants with the contents and operation of the web platform of the Community of Practice
  • Obtain feedback from the conference participants on the content and format of the first version of the Community of Practice Platform.
  • Obtain information on regional communities of practice that can be linked to contents of the first version of the Community of Practice Platform.
